[ inaudible ] >> reporter: caltrain realizes they need to give riders relief. they've been packed on to trains there have been complaints. cal trains is going to add trains in the evening new one leaving if at 6:20. one will be leaving san jose at 4:30. they've restored four trains and those will add a palo alto or sunnyvale stop. then adding trains in the morning you will see one at 9:37 leaving san francisco and one leaving san jose at 9:33. this is not starting next monday, the monday after that

teachers still have to vote. two major retailers revealing plans for hiring extra workers during holiday. kohl's will hire 53,000 seasonal workers, up 10% from last year. target plans to hire 80,000 to 90,000 temporary workers down from 92,000 hired last year the retail irsay because 30% of seasonal workers last year were given permanent positions. belt tightening at american is affecting performances lay-off notices to more than 11,000, the actual cuts expected to be less than half. american plans to cut flights pilots have begun staging unofficial job actions in a contract dispute the move is forcing american to delay or cancel flights. some travel agents are urging customers to choose another airline. american is trying to cut one billion dollars in labor costs as it goes through a bankruptcy restructuring.

he's been transported to the hospital. a second injury the person who lived in this apartment building is refusing treatment. take a look at the scene onio low court near 87 and west capital expressway the fire broke out 4:30 this morning the second floor of a apartment complex. there were three people inside. one woman inside that house got out up on the roof, a couple police officers arrived they grab a ladder put it up against the building and get her down. san jose police coming through, getting her out of the way of danger. the other two people are not accounted for, but not in that apartment building. right now we have an injured firefighter. we also have an injured individual, smoke inhalation, but refusing to go to the hospital. you might see her in the video with her dog on the sidewalk. we did talked to someone who lives below that fire a woman in a wheelchair and talked

about what her morning was like. >> i woke up and saw red light. i looked out and bill said, fire. i looked out and sure enough, we hightailed it out. >> reporter: her husband bill, both in wheelchairs outside their a it will be a while before anybody can go back in the unit upstairs cause of the fire unknown the unit upstairs was heavily damaged one of the people down here says there was a lot of flames at one point. san jose fire got here the fire is out. two injuries, firefighter burned his leg and the woman who lives in that unit, suffering from smoke inhalation they are trying to get her to go to the hospital, she refusing. she is the one who got up on the roof and was rescued with a ladder police found on the lawn. and they got her out of harm's way. congratulations to san jose police. this fire is out.

terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. 5:33. in a few weeks san francisco's supervisors will consider whether to permanently remove suspended sheriff ross pheur fir from office. yesterday afternoon the ethics commission handed over thousands of pages of paperwork to the board. have advisers have thirty days to act and must either reinstate mirkarimi or permanently remove him from office. mirkarimi tried unsuccessfully to postpone deliberations until after the november election. the hearing will take place october 9th. california state university's full board is expected to sign off on a contingency plan for another tuition hike. finance committee passed back-up plan yesterday it would raise tuition by 5% in january if voters reject governor brown's tax initiative on the november
